Traffic police and rules · October 5, 2026 · 2 min read

The basic speed limits to keep in mind if you are driving in Belarus for the first time.

Main limits

  • In built-up areas: 60 km/h.
  • Outside built-up areas: 90 km/h.
  • On motorways: up to 110 km/h.

Follow the road signs: on some sections the limits may be stricter.

Cameras and enforcement

Fixed and mobile speed cameras operate on the roads. A fine is sent to the car owner and can then be passed on to the renter.

Seat belts and lights

All passengers must wear seat belts. Follow official Traffic Police announcements: preventive campaigns are held from time to time and temporary requirements are introduced, for example on the use of lights.

Toll roads

Belarus has a toll road system. Ask the manager when you pick up the car how toll payment is arranged.
