In Belarus, winter tyres are mandatory in the cold season. A short guide on when to change them and what a renter should pay attention to.
When you need winter tyres
In Belarus, cars must be fitted with winter tyres from 1 December to 1 March. It is better to change them in advance, at the end of November: tyre shops are usually busy by the first frosts.
What to look for when choosing tyres
- Marking: the snowflake-on-a-mountain symbol (3PMSF) or the M+S marking.
- Tread condition: worn tyres grip worse on snow and ice.
- The same tyres on all wheels of one axle.
If you take a car for the winter
When booking, ask the manager which tyres the chosen car has. We will advise and help you pick a suitable model, for example with all-wheel drive if you plan trips out of town.
How to drive in winter
Increase your following distance, avoid sharp acceleration and braking, slow down before turns and descents in advance. Before setting off, clear snow from the windows, lights and number plates.
